Rules of Video Chat

1) Respect everybody in the room especially the moderators: -- don't harass, intimidate, threaten or abuse fellow chatters especially the people who have deemed it fit to show their webcams. We try to maintain a warm, convivial atmosphere in the room and so we have a zero tolerance policy towards any offensive act that is designed to make it uncomfortable for broadcasting persons to continue doing so. Moderators have a golden star beside their names. A moderator will ban any offender without any questions asked. Take your frustrations and personal vendetta out to the street.

2) Please use a headphone or earpiece when broadcasting: -- to avoid an echo or other unnecessary background noises, you are required to use a headphone when broadcasting (this is not necessarily asking for an over-the-head microphone). Some laptops have an integrated microphone, and so, you are simply asked to plug in any regular audio headphone into your speakers. If you do not have a headphone then be prepared to use the "Push-to-talk" mode or simply mute your microphone. That way, the room can hear you only when you want to talk. A moderator will bring down your mic/cam if they determine any unacceptable echo or background noise from your end. Just listen and follow their recommendations to tweak your audio to an acceptable level.

3) Do not spam or flood the room especially with your twitter, myspace, hi-5, facebook or other personal websites: -- we get it. You have secured one lonely corner of the web and you are now a celebrity in your own mind. Spare us the details. Do not spam or flood the room with your invitations and solicitations. Advertisements of this or any other sort will summarily get you canned. If you are such a big shot, you don't need to go around peaceful chat rooms splashing web links to your personal shrine anyway.

4) Absolutely NO racist preachments or diatribes: -- you've walked into the room and you've discovered that the room is mostly populated by Africans or African-Americans. Be that as it may, we accommodate people of all racial backgrounds. Respect yourself and try to blend in or make friends. You will not be discriminated against based on your ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, personal philosophy, educational level or political ideology. Therefore, keep your petty racial superiority complex safely tucked under your belt. Failure to do so will see your cowardly racist rump flung outside.

5) On pornographic materials and profanity: -- ideally, you'd expect only adults chatting in this room but occasionally we have minors in the room (a minor for the purposes of this chat room is anyone under 18 years of age). As a result, broadcasting 'adult' or pornographic content on your webcam is strictly prohibited. Certain levels of nudity or sexual intimacy by broadcasting persons are also frowned upon. A moderator reserves the right to close any cam determined to be dangerously skirting the boundaries of decency. Feel free to try other websites or chat rooms if your aim is to satisfy some of your primordial lusts.

6) Avoid the use of mischievous, anonymous or duplicatory nicknames:-- if you are chatting in an online chat room, there is already a huge chance that not too many people will know or recognize you solely by your screen name. Therefore resist the urge to pick the sort of vague, anonymous or profane names that only serve mischievous ends (whether you intend such mischief or not). If you find that your name has a string of numbers attached to it after you get past the nick-selecting screen, please refresh the screen once more to get rid of the numbers. If you find that someone is already using a name that you'd like to use, please get another one. Names like "lol', 'hmm', 'guest', 'ok', 'wtf', 'stfu', 'nameless', 'ass' (or any variation on names given to human genitals) will not be permitted. Also, you cannot use any combination of punctuation marks or special characters that would otherwise make it impossible to verbally sound out your name. If your IQ cannot be trusted to come up with a half-way decent, mischief-free nickname, you probably have no business being here. A moderator will politely ask you to change the nickname if this rule is contravened. The moderator owes you no lengthy argument or explanation as to why he/she specifically requests your name change. A moderator reserves the right to ban  headstrong offenders especially when they come in with overt racist or demeaning nicknames.

7) Minimize the use of All Capitalized text:-- never type your messages by continuously using all capital or uppercase letters. Of course you may occasionally want to emphasize a word or a phrase by using capital letters and that is understood. However, continuous use of capital letters in internet chat rooms is considered screaming, shouting or yelling at another person. This is doubtlessly rude, whether you know of this or not. It doesn't matter if you think you are shouting or not. When some people are engaged in a heated or passionate exchange, the use of all caps is particularly vexatious as it clutters up the screen. Sometimes, no one cares if you do, but if any of your fellow chat room discussants  requests that you drop the caps, please respectfully do so. A moderator will take the necessary corrective action if, and only if, a request to drop caps is  made and ignored. For the avoidance of all doubts, you are considered to have ignored a plea after two consecutive posts using all capital letters.
